Cookie Projects: Christmas Trees

Bake a batch of cookies using one of our recipes or your own. For every two dozen Christmas tree cookies, make a batch of frosting using one of our frosting recipes.

Color 1/4 cup of the frosting dark brown. Color another 1/4 cup of the frosting black. Divide remaining frosting in half and color half of it green and half of it yellow.

Prepare 4 disposable bags by inserting two #2 tips, a #3 tip and a #16 tip. Fill the #16 tip bag with the yellow frosting, and the #3 tip bag with the brown frosting. Fill one of the #2 tip bags with the black frosting, and the other with about 3 tablespoons of the green frosting. Secure all bags with rubber bands.

Turn remaining green frosting into glaze by adding water a few drops at a time, until it is a thin consistency. A few drops of glaze should disappear into the mass by the count of 6 or 7.

NOTE: These instructions will guide you through the process of making both designs shown above. After step 3, choose which design youd like to finish and follow the corresponding directions.




Scoop glaze onto cookie with a spatula. Spread toward edges, adding more as needed, and scraping off any excess. When finished glazing, allow to dry for several hours.




Using yellow bag, create a star by pulling five strands from the center. Decrease pressure as you pull outward to form tips.




Outline trunk area in brown, and then fill in.



Tree with Christmas Lights

Using black frosting, pipe a series of curved strands across the tree. Use green frosting to pipe dots along the strands. While these dots are still wet, use tweezers to place light accents on the tree.



Tree with Christmas Candy Canes

Using yellow frosting, create garland by piping three diagonal "zig-zag" lines across tree. Use green frosting to pipe small lines between strands of garland. While still wet, use tweezers to place candy cane accents.
