This rolling pin comes with 3 sets of wooden rings to ensure that your dough is rolled the exact thickness every time.  Your recipe says to roll the dough 1/4 of an inch thick.  How do you know what that is?  No more guesswork!  Just choose the 1/4" wooden rings and your dough will be perfect.  The three rings sizes let you choose between 1/8" inch, 1/4", and 3/4" thick, or you can remove the rings and you have a traditional rolling pin.  I've had mine since 2002, and it's one of my favorite kitchen tools.  Rolling pin is 22 1/2" by 2" (Barrel is 14" long)
